| Skorpion Zinc - Namibia | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The Skorpion Zinc mine is located some 25 km North of Rosh Pinah in South West Namibia. The mine is part of Anglo
American’s Base Metals division and complies with the stringent requirements for all health, safety and environmental
issues. The plant has been in operation since 2002 and produces 150,000 tpa of special high grade (99.995%) zinc metal. “The primary purpose of this particular project was to clarify the pregnant leach solution to enable production of the highest quality zinc metal thereby commanding a premium on the world market” says Skorpion Zinc’s project manager .Jacques Kruger. PLS clarification is a perennial problem on most base metal recovery plants with operators employing various methods to aid solution clarification. Suspended solids in the PLS forms crud and affects phase separation in solvent extraction plants and is detrimental to the final metal plating process in electrowinning. July 2009 |
Skorpion Zinc - Namibia |
Kathy Sole, Anglo Research Project Manager for this pilot trials said, “The tests demonstrated conclusively that the Roymec pilot PBC could successfully maintain the PLS suspended solids to within the required design specifications." June 2009 |

Design, supply, manufacturing, Supervision of installation and commissioning of four off Decanter drive mechanisms incorporating hazardous area classification zone 2 controls and mechanical equipment. The project involved the modernisation of the existing drives on the site and comprised: The new drive stations were retrofitted onto the existing decanter bridges and available rakes, feedwell and driveshaft and offered significant cost benefits. The units were fully assembled and shop tested. June 2009 |

Skorpion Zinc - Namibia |
Skorpion Zinc has not been able to reduce the PLS suspended solids to the stringent specification levels required for zinc solvent extraction. The mine has trialed numerous clarification technologies since start up including sand filters, conventional large diameter clarifiers, floating media filters, without success. During extensive PBC trials that were run and supported by Anglo American Research using Roymec’s pilot PBC unit, feed to the unit ran at between 50 – 250 ppm. Kathy Sole, Anglo Research Project Manager for this pilot trials said, “The tests demonstrated conclusively that the Roymec pilot PBC could successfully maintain the PLS suspended solids to within the required design specifications. Tenke Fungurume - DRC |
Roymec supplied all off the Pinned Bed Clarifiers, the SX Dual Media Filters and Flocculant and Reagent Plants for the Tenke Fungurume Project in the Democratic Republic of Congo owned by Freeport-McMoRan. Tenke Fungurume could be the largest, undeveloped, high-grade copper/cobalt project in the world, according to company president and CEO Richard Adkerson, which has budgeted up too $900-million in capital expenditure to complete the project. The current project, which will have its first full year of output in 2010, will produce an average of 250-million pounds of copper and 18-million pounds of cobalt a year. June 2009 |
Kayelekera Uranium - Malawi |
The Kayelekera Uranium Deposit is located in Northern Malawi in Southern Africa.
The project is held by Paladin Africa Ltd, a Malawi registered company and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Paladin Energy Ltd. Paladin is listed on the Australian Toronto stock exchanges.
The Malawi project has proven reserves of 11.5Mt of contained uranium oxide. It would be Paladin's second-largest uranium mine and its second in Africa.
Roymec supplied the Ion Exchange – Elution circuit to the project, comprising the resin eduction system, elution columns, pumps, piping and instrumentation. November 2008 |
